Whether you are starting a new business or wish to expand your existing one online, you realize that having a professional looking and a smooth functioning website is a necessity in today’s world.

In this case, you are extremely fortunate to be in this position in 2018.
It wasn’t long ago that you had to pay considerable money for website design software and had to have some knowledge of coding to make a website that’s liked by visitors and search engines alike.

After finishing this article, you should have a good idea of how to choose a website builder that fits your needs.

How Long Has the Website Builder Been in Business?

This is a basic issue to be concerned with when choosing a website builder.

You don’t want to invest your time and effort into learning a particular company’s website creation tools only to have them go out of business and then have to start all over again someplace else.

Fortunately, there are plenty of online website builders that have been in business for many years and are likely not going anywhere.

Wix, Squarespace, and Weebly and SiteRubix have all been in business for at least a decade.

How Popular Is the Website Builder?

How many people are using a given website building platform now and how many new members are signing up each month are both very important considerations.

It makes sense that website builders that are easy to use, low cost and offer many features and benefits will be among the most popular ones.

There will also be a lot more third-party support in the form of plugins or add-ons for website creation platforms that have millions of users.

Wix, Weebly, and SiteRubix are just three examples of website builders that have huge user bases.

WordPress is a content management system with website creation tools that have tens of millions of users, and it’s famous for having thousands of plugins that expand its functionality and capabilities for just about any need or purpose a website owner could ever have.

What Kind of Support Is Available?

In any endeavor we undertake, we all hope things go smoothly.

That said, sometimes this doesn’t happen.

In the event of problems, technical questions or unanticipated issues, you need to find out what kind of resources and contact options a given website builder has available for

Any popular, serious website builder company should offer email support and a knowledge base at a minimum.

Some will throw in a live chat on top of this, and Wix and Weebly have phone support.

The issue of support will be all the more important if you’ve never done anything like creating a website before.

Cost of a Website Building Service

Cost is an obvious concern when buying anything.

With online website building companies, you need to realize that your cost will be ongoing because they will be providing monthly hosting for your website.

A good website building company will have different plans that tailor to different customer needs in terms of features and pricing.

If you don’t need as many megabytes of storage space, or email accounts or other features, then you should be able to pay less to get less.

All of the services mentioned in this article have at least a couple pricing and feature level options, so you are only paying for what you need as your business grows.

Is a Free Trial or Free Version Available?

As with buying a car, the best way to figure out how to choose a website builder is by taking it for a test drive.

You can read all you want about features and benefits, but at the end of the day, will you be able to figure out how to use a particular website builder, and will it give you all the capabilities you need and want?

A free trial or a free to use version of the software will be the best way to come to a firm conclusion on choosing a website builder.

Free to useAmong major website builder companies, Wix, Weebly, and SiteRubix offer free versions, and Squarespace offers a 14-day trial.

Choose Wisely

Once you start putting together your website with a given company, there may be differences between website builders as far as how easy or hard it is to transfer it to another one should you find out later that they don’t offer what you need.Good or Bad when choosing a website builder

One big consideration is to choose one that keeps your costs low now and that enables you to scale up features and capabilities as your online business grows.

Wix, Weebly, SiteRubix, Squarespace, and WordPress are examples of site builders that have been around for a while and that should be a safe bet for most online business owners.

It’s only a matter of drilling down into the specific differences in those criteria that may matter most to you in making the final decision.

WordPress, for instance, is preferred by many whose main interest is in creating a blog because its content management capabilities make it a natural for this. SiteRubix uses WordPress as its CMS.

Wix, Duda, Squarespace, Weebly and many others include an online store for those who are primarily looking to retail products through their website while also offering a blogging tool.

There are a few others available as well that you should check out.

These include Simvoly, Strikingly, Jimdo, and GoDaddy. This last one was primarily known as a domain registration and web hosting company, but they also have a website building service now.

Your best bet is to research features and benefits and narrow it down to a couple of your top picks.

Then you should get that free trial or free version and start seeing what it can actually do for you in enabling you to build a website that brings your online business to the next level.

  1. that is right my friend, test driving is good for building and maintaining a website initially, and getting the experience and training is also necassary to be able to get your daily groove on and get credit for your efforts by actually making money for the monthly fees that adjust your budget and free your potentially from working some day.

    • Yes Andrew, there are many website builders to choose from and test out, although I still believe that SiteRubix gives everything under one roof. A good website builder and the training needed to set up a profitable online business.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

  2. Thanks for this post.
I use WordPress as a website builder for my current site. However, when I first started building websites back in the 90s, I was using Dreamweaver. I still have the software and it served me well back then.

Recently, I’ve been thinking of resurrecting this for a small project I’m creating for myself. I can then use this Dreamweaver site to compare analytics against my WordPress site as an experiment.

Do you think they’ll be much support if I moved away from the traditional CMS systems and started to use Dreamweaver again?

    • Hi Jacqueline, thank you for taking the time to post your comment.
I have never used Dreamweaver so I really couldn’t give you an honest appraisal of the support they give, although being connected to Adobe I would imagine the support would be very efficient.
Using both CMS as an experiment is a great idea and should give you a very good idea which one works best for you.
      Thanks again
