Running an Online Business From Home is like any other business it has to be planned out and executed.
I know, you thought you were just going to turn up, build a website, put a few ads on it and sit back and wait for the money to come in.
HELLO …..Time to wake up and smell the coffee. Did You Really Think It Was Going To Be That Easy?
Welcome to the world of online business.
I promise you there is no easy way to maintain a sustainable income on the internet without putting in the time and effort from the beginning.
So let’s point out some of the areas you should be concentrating on.
Throughout this article, I will be guiding you towards my #1 recommendations and what I believe to be the best opportunities for you to use to make a successful career out of your online business.
Obviously, you will have decided what direction you want to take your business in.
You will have decided what Niche you want to infiltrate.
Nowadays with the internet so powerful anything and everything is obtainable online.
Coming up with a business project shouldn’t be that hard.
If you are having a bit of a problem thinking about what to base your business on start off with something that you are really interested in or have a passion for.
You will find that so much easier down the line when it comes to writing articles 2/3 times a week.
After all, if you were to open a bricks and mortar shop you wouldn’t buy or rent the premises then sit back and think “What shall I do with this”.
So have a good idea of what you want to do with your website.
The name above the door. (Your Domain Name)
This is your website address, this is what customers are going to remember when and if they want to come back to your site and make a purchase.
Your domain name should be memorable but also state what you are about.
You only have 63 characters to play with, that is excluding the Http:// and www before and the extension .com, .net .org etc after the name.
So come up with something that surfers will relate to.
Do some research on a name before you decide.
As sure as nuts are nuts the first one or two you think of will be unavailable so you will have to play around with the wording until you find one that is available.
Ways that you going to make money
There are so many different avenues you can take that you can earn you money online and just as many ways in which you can create an entire business.
With over 2 billion people online at any given time searching for things, you have an audience at your fingertips that are looking for information and to buy products.
This is where your website is going to come into its own by helping these “audiences” obtain the information they are looking for.
Helping being the operative word here.
Keep one thought in mind when you are trying to make money, Inform Don’t Sell.
The last thing your audience wants is a second-hand car dealer in their face trying to sell a clapped out vehicle with no MOT or road tax.
You have to inform people about the product you are promoting with all the good points (and bad) and then guide them to a conclusion by linking to your product and hopefully making a sale.
This is going to be the easiest part of your project.
Getting a basic website up and running will take you about 1 minute by using a good website builder.
All this does is gives you a base to build on.
But that base needs to be solid and by using a website builder that incorporates a proven Content Management System like WordPress is essential when you come to build out your website.
Personally, I use SiteRubix, it is free and gives you 2 free websites to play around with.
Making your site SEO friendly
This is all about making friends with the Search Engines.
Google is the most used platform for internet searches it is always a good idea to make sure that they can crawl your website without difficulty.
That means telling them everything that is going on within your site.
Most importantly your images.
Search engine crawlers can only see text, therefore you must tell them what the image is all about by adding “Alt Text” to the image settings.
Difference between Pages and Posts
There is a significant difference between pages of your site and posts.
Pages are static pieces of information that rarely get altered except for updating.
Whereas posts are everyday additions that are both relevant to your business and advisable articles on new products and reviews.
This is going to be one of the most important learning curves for you to tackle.
Keywords are the element that is going to get your information found in the search engines.
Each page or post you write should be relevant to one keyword.
If you think about it this is going to give you multiple ideas for content on your site.
Let’s take Baby Car Seats for an example. You could come up with Keywords such as:
Baby car seats,
Baby car seats for safety,
Which way should Baby car seats face and why,
Choosing the right Baby car seat,
How to install a Baby car seat,
Baby car seats age restrictions,
Different types of Baby car seats,
How to clean Baby car seats.
I have just come up with 7/8 Keywords relating to BabyCar Seats in a matter of a few minutes.
With more research, there would be many, many more that can be found and all of these are single page/post content ideas.
Keywords are words or phrases that surfers type into the search engine to find what they are looking for.
If you search Baby Car Seats you will find millions upon millions of entries, however, if you type in How to install a baby car seat the searches fall to just thousands.
Doing research on Keywords is vitally important to find the word /phrase that gives you the least competition from other websites.
There are many Keyword research programs to choose from.
Finding one that is going to give you in-depth results like, how many monthly searches, how many websites using that keyword, how much traffic you can expect.
These are important factors in ranking for your page/post.
I recommend a Keyword research platform called Jaaxy, this will give you everything you need to know as to whether the keyword you choose will do the job for you.
Creating Quality Content
This is the most important aspect you should be concentrating on.
Google loves high-quality new content.
No matter what Niche you are in there is always ways of producing an article that gives the reader a good experience in the way it is written and the visual layout of the page/post.
A good article should be no less than 500 words, should add value to the reader and written in such a way that keeps them interested.
A page full of text is boring so break it up by using images that are relevant to the article you are writing about.
Use white space.
Long paragraphs soon get skipped over so break up long paragraphs into smaller sections, but above all keep your reader interested.
Without traffic, you have no business.
Getting that traffic is another matter.
Traffic is visitors to your site. How do you get visitors to your site? Give them what they want.
You have no doubt heard the phrase “Google it”.
Google is the biggest encyclopedia in the world.
No matter what you want to find out Google will have the answer.
Your site has got to have the answer to whatever surfers are looking for.
There will be thousands of other sites all with the same information that you are giving, the art is to give your information in such a way that readers want to come back to you for more.
Ok so now we have all this in place, how do we make money from it?
There are many ways you can monetize your website and this will be completely up to you and what your site is portraying.
To monetize your website you are going to have to add things to it that will eventually help your website make money and become profitable beast you are hoping for.
There are hundreds of ways to monetize your website, where some of them are quite simple others can be more complex and become costly.
To monetize your website effectively generating traffic is the most important factor that should be taken into consideration.
Why? It’s the law of averages, The more lottery tickets you buy, the better chance you have of winning the jackpot.
The more people you have coming to your site the better chance you have of making a sale, the higher the chance of surfers clicking on your pay-per-click advertisements and with the higher volume, there is a better chance of acquiring purchases through your affiliate programs.
Monetize your website through more than one revenue stream, don’t put all your eggs in one basket, any two or even three of these paths should be considered.
One of the most common and easiest ways to earn money from your website.
Display advertising quite simply means placing banner ads or text ads on your site and getting paid every time someone clicks on them.
This isn’t the greatest money maker in the world, as payouts are quite minimalistic so traffic volume is a must to see any sort of generous return.
Affiliate marketing is advertising other companies products on your site and earning a commission from sales that are generated through consumers buying into that product by clicking on the advert.
If the merchant you are advertising converts your referrals to a sale, you get a piece of the pie.
It is important that you only place relevant Affiliate ads that compliment the content and theme of your website.
There wouldn’t be a lot of point in advertising Baby Car Seats on your site if your site is about Losing Belly Fat.
Writing and Selling an Ebook.
Producing and selling your own products is by far the most cost-effective and profitable way to make money from your website as long as all the hard work is done by you.
There’s no middle-man taking a ‘piece of the pie’ from the price you charge.
Although this may seem fairly straightforward, you write an interesting book on a subject close to your heart and simply sell it directly through your website and get paid immediately.
Unfortunately, it’s not quite that simple.
Creating and producing a good product requires a good deal of time and effort.
Let’s take an Ebook for example.
Identifying your target audience is key to writing a profitable Ebook. Research the needs of your chosen Niche and base the topic around those problems.
A great deal of consideration should be given to the Title and design of the book cover.
This is the main focal point in selling your book and letting the reader know exactly what your topic is about.
Selling your own products online also brings up problems like setting up a payment structure, You would have to obtain an SSL certificate for online security safety.
An Online store is a very popular outlet for making money on the internet. It can be achieved by setting up a stand-alone store or integrated within your website.
Basically, you are creating an online shop selling anything that is within your Niche.
A health shop, a sports shop, a money making shop, video games etc, etc.
The biggest E-commerce site in the world is Amazon and to replicate that would be a monumental task, but a single niche site is very do-able.
Again you would need an SSL certificate and a shopping cart program of which there are many options on the internet.

Now comes the hard part. The waiting game.
Do not expect your site to go straight to #1 in the search engines overnight.
It won’t happen.
You will have to work on your site every day adding content upon content and start to get traffic.
It could take 2/3 months before you begin to see any sort of activity on your website.
That’s the name of the game, getting recognised by the search engines by having an authoritative site that gives original quality content.
It will be when you produce a website that the search engines want that you will start to earn a good living from it.
